Welcome to Nagasaki

We spent a sobering day visiting Nagasaki.   We visited the Atomic Bomb museum, located right next to the area that was ground zero for the bomb.  We then went to the Peace Park where nations from all over the world have contributed statues as a memorial to the people who died there.

We were introduced to a survivor of the bombing while visiting the Peace Park.

Our guide told us that while the deaths resulting from the bomb were devastating to the city it did end the war and countless lives were saved as a result on both sides.

As the last stop we visited Glover Gardens which was on the hillside overlooking the bay where our ship was docked.

The pictures and video of the sail away at the end of the day was being celebrated more than usual since our ship had been built in the Nagasaki ship yard directly across from where we were docked for the day.
