Welcome to Petra

It was about an hours drive from the port to Petra.  The ancient city of Petra is well hidden in the mountains next to the town that has grown up next to it over many years.   There is a welcome center, along with hotels and restaurants in the area.   Then it is about a 30 minute walk down a rock incline to get to the actual natural rock entrance into Petra.  You can walk, ride a horse, or ride in a two wheel horse drawn cart.  Watching the people in the carts it was a really bumpy ride.  If you were to use a ride it would be better coming back up the incline on the way out.

The area of Petra is huge and it would take at least a couple of days to see it all.

The library, the most iconic structure in Petra is located ride at the entrance of the city.  The views are spectacular and while it is a little bit touristy with some souvenir shops etc it still has a huge impact on you.
