Harstad was the first stop on our trip from Tromso Norway to Reykjavik on the Norwegian Star Cruise ship. The excursion we did was more of a see the area then going to a real “oh wow’ moment.   The most unusual thing was visiting a WW II German gun location inside an active Norwegian military base.   There were several of these gun placements built by the Germans to protect the area from ships getting in.  The guns were so powerful that after they were built and tested no ships came near them, so they were never fired in war.
