We spent the day in Riga on a ships excursion called “Charming Riga”. The ship was docked right in downtown Riga, which is unusual for a lot of cities.  We first drove across the river to get some overall views of the city from the other side, then rode through several sections of city before getting off the bus for a walking tour of the old city.   Riga is both very modern and historic at the same time.  It is a lot of walking and a lot of cobble stone pavers so just be aware.
